Год основания: 1991

Pro-Ject Audio Systems is the Austrian brand that turned the affordable turntable into a category of its own, founded in 1991 by Heinz Lichtenegger, betting on vinyl at the height of the CD boom and growing into the world's largest turntable maker, with roughly 300 staff and products sold in over 80 countries.

Range & what it's known for

Turntables are the core, from the entry Primary and Debut lines to the X series and high-end Signature decks, but the catalog now spans phono stages, DACs, streamers, integrated amplifiers and headphone amps built under the compact Box Design concept. The through-line is genuine analogue engineering priced to undercut most rivals tier for tier.

Who owns it and where it's made

Pro-Ject is privately held by founder Heinz Lichtenegger through Audio Tuning Vertriebs GmbH, the group that also owns Musical Fidelity, acquired in May 2018, plus Rekkord Audio and Tone Factory. Products are designed in Austria and hand-assembled in Europe, with plants in the Czech Republic, Slovakia and Germany, rather than offshored to Asia.

The lineup in this catalog

Turntables (40+), phono stages (12), DACs (6), amplifiers (8), accessories (20+). Prices roughly 150 to 8,000 euros.

Who it's for

A safe first turntable and a real upgrade path - the Debut range suits newcomers, while the X and Signature decks reward committed listeners.
