The Debut PRO S Balanced EXPO 2025 Edition is a limited turntable that Pro-Ject Audio Systems created for the World Expo 2025 in Osaka. Its plinth and tonearm are finished in pure white, a colour Pro-Ject links to precision and purity in Japanese culture, and the deck was presented at the Austrian Pavilion together with the Camerata Salzburg chamber orchestra as a tribute to ties between Austria and Japan. It is handmade in Europe, offered by order only, and the edition is also known as the Japan Edition.

Key specs that matter

Instead of a Pick it cartridge, this edition arrives with an Ortofon 2M White moving magnet cartridge already factory-mounted on an 8.6 inch S-shaped aluminium tonearm. Drive is by belt, with electronic switching between 33 and 45 rpm and 78 rpm also available. Pro-Ject gives speed deviation of 0.4 percent at 33 and 0.5 percent at 45, wow and flutter of 0.16 and 0.14 percent, with 68 dB given for signal to noise. The unit is 415 x 113 x 320 mm and weighs 6 kg net. It runs on 110 to 240 V at 50 or 60 Hz and draws at most 4 W. The list price is EUR 1,099 including VAT, with deliveries starting in November 2025.

Engineering and use context

The platter is die-cast aluminium, measuring 300 mm, damped with a TPE ring and covered by a felt mat. A stainless steel axle turning in a bronze bushing forms the main bearing. Both VTA and azimuth on the Pro-Ject-built arm can be adjusted, so the cartridge geometry can be set precisely. Height-adjustable metal feet let the plinth be levelled on an uneven surface. The box holds a dust cover, the felt mat, an external 15 V DC, 800 mA power supply and an RCA cable for the phono connection. Ortofon rates the 2M White at 5.5 mV output at 1 kHz and 5 cm/sec, with a bonded elliptical diamond of 8/18 um tip radii, 1.8 g recommended tracking force, 20 um/mN lateral compliance, a 20 degree tracking angle and 20 Hz to 20 kHz response within plus 3 and minus 1 dB.

Pairing

The 2M White is a moving magnet design, so the deck plugs into the moving magnet phono stage of an integrated amplifier or to a standalone MM phono preamplifier through the included RCA lead, ideally one offering the 47 kOhm resistance and 150 to 300 pF capacitance Ortofon recommends for this cartridge.
