The Debut PRO B White Edition is a special all-white version of the Debut PRO B record player made in Europe by Austria's Pro-Ject. The plinth and fittings share a white satin look, while the mechanics follow the regular PRO B, and it ships ready to play with the Pick it PRO Balanced cartridge, which Pro-Ject describes as the first True Balanced MM cartridge of its kind. That cartridge, built with Ortofon in Europe, delivers 4 mV at 1 kHz, tracks at 2.0 g within a 1.8 to 2.2 g range, uses an elliptical 8/18 um stylus, weighs 7.2 g and covers 20 to 20,000 Hz within 2 dB.

Key specs that matter

Speed is selected electronically with a toggle switch across 33, 45 and 78 rpm, and a round belt for 78 comes in the box. Speed stability is rated at 0.16 percent wow and flutter for 33 and 0.14 percent for 45, drift of 0.40 and 0.50 percent, and signal to noise of 68 dB. The 8.6 inch arm is a one-piece carbon-aluminium sandwich tube with 218.5 mm effective length, 10 g effective mass and 18.5 mm overhang. The deck measures 415 x 113 x 320 mm and weighs 6 kg net. A 15 V DC, 0.8 A adapter supplies power, with 4 W consumption running and 0 W on standby.

Engineering and use context

A 300 mm die-cast aluminium platter carries a TPE damping ring and felt mat, is anti-magnetic and spins on a high-precision stainless steel axle in a bronze bushing. The redesigned tonearm base lets both azimuth and vertical tracking angle be set, with arm height adjusted continuously by loosening two grub screws, so thicker mats or other cartridges can be fitted. The bearing block is CNC-cut from solid aluminium, while the aluminium parts are nickel coated for a hard surface, a choice Pro-Ject presents as a way to avoid plastics. Three height-adjustable damped aluminium feet level the chassis and reduce acoustic feedback. Beside the standard RCA pair there is a mini XLR socket for a balanced phono connection, which Pro-Ject says helps reject picked-up noise and interference. The dust cover and a 7 inch single adapter are included, and the white model lists at EUR 899.

Pairing

To use the balanced path, the turntable needs a True Balanced phono stage, and Pro-Ject names the Phono Box S3 B, Phono Box DS3 B, Tube Box DS3 B and Phono Box RS. Through the RCA outputs it works with any conventional MM phono input.

For a larger deck, Pro-Ject makes the Debut PRO S Balanced with a 10 inch S-shape aluminium arm with an SME connector and a Pick it S2 C cartridge.
