The Speaker Box 12 E Carbon is the larger of two floorstanding models that Pro-Ject Audio Systems added to its E Carbon loudspeaker family in January 2025, next to the slimmer Speaker Box 10 E Carbon and above the 3 E and 5 E bookshelf designs. Pro-Ject calls the cabinet deliberately compact, with clean lines and a front baffle that shows no visible screws. The MSRP per pair was EUR 1,199 in satin paint and EUR 1,299 in walnut veneer, both including VAT.

Key specs that matter

Each tower carries a 1-inch silk dome tweeter and two woofers whose cones are a composite of glass fibre and carbon, 5-inch units. The quoted range runs from 42 Hz to 20 kHz, sensitivity is 89 dB at 1 W and 1 m and nominal impedance is 4 ohm. Pro-Ject recommends amplifiers delivering 20 to 200 W per channel. Height is 1,100 mm, width 165 mm and depth 220 mm, and a single speaker weighs 15.17 kg. Satin finishes are black, white, fir green, golden yellow and steel blue, alongside the real walnut veneer.

Engineering and use context

The layout is 2.5-way, so the two woofers do not share identical duties - the lower driver is fed only low frequencies, while its partner also covers the midband up to the tweeter. A discrete crossover splits the signal, and the reflex opening vents through the back of the cabinet. The enclosure is built from stiff MDF with internal bracing and damping against panel resonance. A separate compartment at the base is filled with sand, which Pro-Ject calls a gravity mass point, intended to absorb vibration and keep a tall, narrow box stable. Assembly involves turning the speaker upside down and screwing four spike feet into threaded nuts in the base plate, and spike discs can go underneath to protect a wooden floor. Black fabric grilles attach with magnets and come in the box, and Pro-Ject describes them as nearly acoustically transparent covers meant mainly as protection, for example from pets. Around the back sits a double block of gold-plated banana terminals.

Pro-Ject states that any good amplifier designed for 4 to 8 ohm loads will do, and the maker names its Stereo Box DS3 and MaiA DS3 integrated amplifiers as matching partners from its own catalogue. The split terminals allow bi-wiring from one stereo amplifier or bi-amping, where one amplifier drives the woofers and another the tweeter.
