The T1 EVO BT is the wireless-capable version of the T1 EVO entry turntable from Pro-Ject Audio Systems, combining a belt-driven deck, a switchable moving magnet phono preamplifier and a Bluetooth 5.0 transmitter with aptX HD in one plinth. It arrives with an Ortofon OM 10 cartridge already mounted and adjusted - buyers choose between black gloss lacquer, white satin and walnut plinths.

Key specs that matter

Speeds of 33 and 45 rpm are changed electronically. Pro-Ject quotes a speed variance of 0.7 percent at 33 rpm and 0.6 percent at 45 rpm, with wow and flutter of 0.25 and 0.23 percent respectively, and Pro-Ject lists 65 dB for signal to noise. The glass platter is 8 mm thick with a blasted finish and sits on a felt mat, turning on a main bearing of stainless steel in brass. The one-piece aluminium arm is 8.6 inch, with 218.5 mm effective length, 22.0 mm overhang and 8.0 g effective mass. A pre-mounted counterweight covers cartridges of 5 to 10 g, and the tracking force scale runs from 0 to 50 mN, set at the factory to 17.5 mN. Output is on RCA sockets. The mains adapter accepts 110 to 240 V at 50 or 60 Hz and delivers 15 V DC at 800 mA, and maximum consumption is 4.5 W. The deck is 415 mm wide, 100 mm high and 335 mm deep and weighs 3.8 kg net.

Engineering and use context

The plinth is CNC machined and contains no plastic parts, and Pro-Ject states that it is made without hollow spaces inside, so that the chassis does not pick up and hold vibration. Feet chosen for isolation keep ambient vibration from the rack or shelf out of the deck. The OM 10 uses an elliptical diamond stylus, and because tracking force comes preset, the turntable can play straight out of the box. With the internal preamplifier switched on, the RCA output is at line level, and the same signal feeds the Bluetooth transmitter for wireless playback. With the preamplifier off, the output reverts to phono level for an external stage. Pairing

Set to line level, the T1 EVO BT can feed an amplifier or powered speakers that lack a phono input, and the aptX HD link can reach a Bluetooth receiver, wireless speaker or headphones in another part of the room without a cable run. Owners who already have a phono stage in their amplifier, or a separate unit, simply switch the internal circuit out and use the passive phono signal instead.

Alternatives

The Pro-Ject T1 EVO Phono keeps the same deck and switchable MM preamplifier but leaves out the Bluetooth transmitter.
