NAD C 589 – CD Player with QRONO d2a Technology

NAD has introduced the new C 589 CD player, expanding its Classic series. The model is aimed at fans of physical music media and combines traditional compact disc playback with modern digital processing developed by MQA Labs.

Despite the dominance of streaming services, compact discs remain a relevant format. Many listeners still have large CD collections, while some music lovers value the very idea of a physical medium – with artwork, a booklet, and the feeling of owning an album. The NAD C 589 is designed precisely for those who want to get a higher level of sound quality from their CD collection.

One of the main features of the NAD C 589 is QRONO d2a technology. This is a digital audio processing technology developed by MQA Labs, which, after its bankruptcy, was acquired by Lenbrook, NAD’s parent company. In the C 589, this technology is used to work more precisely with the time structure of the signal and to preserve micro-details related to the timing of the music stream.

According to NAD, the use of QRONO d2a technology should have a positive effect on sound clarity, soundstage construction, and the naturalness of presentation. The manufacturer emphasizes that the technology is especially noticeable on recordings with a large amount of acoustic detail, spatial information, and subtle performance nuances.

The built-in digital-to-analog converter of the NAD C 589 is based on a high-quality solution from ESS Technology. It is designed for low noise, minimal distortion, and a wide dynamic range. At the same time, the player can be used not only as a full-fledged CD player, but also as a transport for an external DAC.

For analog connection, both unbalanced RCA outputs and balanced XLR outputs are provided. The digital section includes AES/EBU, coaxial, and optical outputs. At the same time, the model has no digital inputs, so the C 589 cannot be used as an external DAC.

NAD also paid special attention to the drive mechanism. The manufacturer states that the loading mechanism and laser system are designed for quiet, smooth, and stable operation, as well as accurate data reading from various compact discs. This should ensure reliable playback and reduce the likelihood of read errors.

The front panel of the player features a large information display capable of showing artist and track information, provided such data is present on the disc. An infrared remote control is included in the package. The NAD C 589 CD player is already on sale at a recommended retail price of US$1,399 or €1,599.
