TAD-A1000D – Integrated Amplifier with Digital Inputs

Japan’s Technical Audio Devices Laboratories has introduced the TAD-A1000D integrated amplifier from its Evolution Series. The new model builds on the concept of the fully analog TAD-A1000, released in 2025, while adding a digital signal path with proprietary clocking, signal processing and digital-to-analog conversion technologies. The analog amplification section itself remains unchanged. The amplifier uses a balanced BTL bridge configuration, while the left and right channels are arranged in a highly symmetrical mirrored layout with separate power supply and grounding circuits.

The power supply is based on a large toroidal transformer combined with linear regulation. Each channel has its own transformer windings, rectifier and filtering stages, while copper terminals and fasteners with non-magnetic plating are used extensively throughout the design. The power section also features four custom-developed 33,000 µF electrolytic capacitors. Internally, the chassis is divided into five shielded sections for the preamplifier, power amplifier, transformer, control electronics and digital module, helping to reduce interference between individual circuits and minimize noise.

The digital section of the TAD-A1000D uses a third-generation Ultra-High-Precision Crystal Generator with TAD’s proprietary SC-cut crystal, designed to reduce phase noise and temperature-related drift. Its asynchronous USB interface supports PCM up to 384 kHz and DSD256, with data processing handled by an FPGA. The I/V conversion stage employs TAD’s current-feedback topology, minimizing the number of intermediate stages between the DAC and the analog signal path. A similar approach is used in the preamplifier, which also features matched FET pairs and an electronic resistor-ladder volume control with claimed distortion below 0.0005% at a 1 Vrms input level.

he amplifier delivers 250 watts per channel into 4 ohms, with a specified signal-to-noise ratio of at least 100 dB. It weighs 29 kg. The chassis rests on three feet with internally inverted spikes intended to reduce the transmission of external vibrations, while the speaker terminals are derived from solutions used in TAD’s Reference Series power amplifiers. Sales of the TAD-A1000D in Japan are scheduled to begin in late October. The silver version is priced at 3,800,000¥, while the black finish, available as a made-to-order option, will cost 3,850,000¥.
