T+A PS 3100 HV – Clean Power for 3100 Series Components

German manufacturer T+A has introduced the PS 3100 HV external power supply, designed for the PA 3100 HV integrated amplifier and the A 3100 HV stereo power amplifier. The unit has been developed as an optional upgrade for components in the 3100 HV series and is intended to reduce interaction between different amplifier sections by separating their power supplies.

Once connected, the PS 3100 HV takes over power delivery to the output stages, while the amplifier’s internal power supply continues to serve the input stages and high-voltage circuitry. The connection is made via T+A’s proprietary M-23 Special Powerlink cable. According to the company, this architecture should improve amplifier stability with demanding speaker loads and reduce the influence of the high-current output stages on more sensitive parts of the circuitry.

Inside the PS 3100 HV is a 1,200 VA transformer and a bank of 24 custom-made capacitors with a total capacitance of 240,000 µF. The stored energy reserve reaches 1,200 joules. To prevent such a large capacitor bank from drawing excessive inrush current at startup, the unit uses processor-controlled soft-start circuitry that gradually raises the voltage. The front panel also features a large analog meter that can display either power-supply voltage stability or the current being delivered to the amplifier’s output stages.

The T+A PS 3100 HV measures 46 × 17 × 46 cm and weighs 38 kg. Maximum power consumption is rated at 1,800 watts, while standby consumption is less than 0.5 watt. T+A has not yet announced pricing or availability for the new power supply.
