Marantz Introduces the Model 70 Amplifier and CD 70 CD Player

Marantz has expanded its product range with two affordable components for home stereo systems: the Model 70 integrated amplifier and the CD 70 compact disc player. The new products replace the popular PM6007 and CD6007 components, retaining the Japanese brand’s signature approach to sound while introducing a redesigned construction, a wider selection of connections and more contemporary styling. Both models are available in black and silver-gold finishes.

The Marantz Model 70 integrated amplifier uses an upgraded current-feedback circuit and a Class AB output stage. The unit delivers 50 watts per channel. Marantz has also redesigned the power supply and installed a larger toroidal transformer, which is intended to provide improved dynamics, stable current delivery and confident performance with a variety of loudspeakers.

The Marantz Model 70 integrated amplifier is equipped with a built-in phono stage for moving-magnet cartridges. This allows a turntable to be connected directly to the amplifier without using an external device. The rear panel also features analogue and digital inputs, a preamplifier output and a dedicated connection for an active subwoofer.

Additional connectivity is provided by an HDMI ARC interface. It allows the Model 70 to be used as an audio hub for a television, with volume adjustable using the television’s standard remote control. The built-in Bluetooth module can not only receive a wireless audio signal but also transmit it to compatible headphones. Supported codecs include aptX Adaptive, aptX HD, AAC and SBC.

The Marantz CD 70 CD player is designed to reproduce both traditional compact discs and high-resolution audio files. The unit uses the same digital-to-analogue converter as the Model 70 amplifier, while its analogue stage is built around the company’s proprietary discrete HDAM modules. According to the developers, this configuration should deliver a rich, detailed and emotionally engaging sound with accurate reproduction of subtle recording nuances.

The front panel of the Marantz CD 70 features a USB-A port for connecting external storage devices. The player supports FLAC HD, ALAC, AIFF and DSD formats, allowing it to be used not only for listening to CDs but also as a source for a digital music collection. The built-in headphone amplifier is also based on an HDAM module and features adjustable gain as well as automatic detection of connected headphones.

Particular attention was paid to reducing interference and mechanical resonances during the development of the Marantz CD 70. To achieve this, the manufacturer used an upgraded power supply, a double-layer chassis base, substantial vibration-isolating feet and copper components installed at critical points in the construction. The amplifier and CD player share the same design and are intended to be used together. Their packaging is made primarily from FSC-certified cardboard and paper-based protective materials, reducing the amount of plastic used.

Marantz describes the Model 70 and CD 70 as an affordable introduction to the brand’s premium home audio equipment. The new pairing is aimed both at users assembling their first complete Hi-Fi system and at owners of older Marantz components looking to upgrade. The recommended European retail price of the Marantz Model 70 integrated amplifier is €850, while the Marantz CD 70 CD player is priced at €600.
