FiiO K15 – an Inexpensive DAC with a Headphone Amplifier

05.07.2025 06:36 | ~2 minutes read

FiiO plans to release a new DAC with a headphone amplifier and a preamplifier FiiO K15. Detailed performance characteristics of the new product will be announced after the presentation at the CanJam exhibition in London - but it is already known that the model will go on sale in August 2025 for an affordable 599 euros. Of course, FiiO K15 supports Hi-Res up to PCM 32/768 and DSD512.

FiiO K15 uses technologies borrowed from the older model K17. Digital-to-analog conversion operates on two Asahi Kasei AK4497S Velvet Sound chips. The dual mono configuration provides a fully symmetrical and differential analog path. The device is equipped with analog and digital inputs and is capable of working with headphones in both balanced and unbalanced modes. The analog and digital parts of the circuit, as well as the power supplies, are located on separate boards. A 10-band parametric equalizer is available via the application.

The headphone amplifier in the FiiO K15 operates in class AB and is capable of providing up to 3 W of power when using a balanced interface. Two backlit knobs provide volume control and menu navigation on a 4" touch screen. Headphone connectivity is available via a 6.35 mm jack, a 4.4 mm Pentaconn jack, and a mini-XLR connector. Network integration can be via a cable (RJ45 Ethernet), or via dual-band WiFi 2.4/5 GHz: Bluetooth with aptX HD and LDAC support is not forgotten. The FiiO K15 is also Roon certified.
