DS Audio Mono – New Optical Cartriges

19.05.2025 05:02 | ~1 minute read

DS Audio has introduced the DS Audio Mono optical cartridges, designed specifically for playing monophonic records and featuring a special suspension system that responds only to horizontal needle movements (in stereo, where sound waves are encoded in both horizontal and vertical vibrations on vinyl, monophonic records use only horizontal movements to transmit the audio signal). Thanks to the high-precision transmission of only horizontal movements, DS Audio Mono series cartridges do not take into account uninformative needle movements and allow you to fully convey the unique sound features of monophonic records. This specialized design maximizes the potential of monophonic records.

The DS Audio Mono series cartridges have a base made of solid brass – the metal combines high rigidity and relatively high internal damping, which makes it an ideal material for audio applications.

Mono versions are available for all DS Audio cartridge models. Although the design of monophonic pickups is specially adapted for playing mono records, their price is the same as the cost of stereo versions. This allows buyers to choose between mono and stereo depending on the composition of the record library or musical preferences.

The Hegel H150 integrated amplifier has been announced – the model will replace the well-known Hegel H120. The new model will offer a power of 2 x 75 W with a damping factor of 2,000 – that is, there are simply no complex acoustic systems for the device. In addition, the Hegel H150 is equipped with a built-in phono preamplifier and an advanced streamer.
