Musician Delphinus – Resistor-Ladder DAC with DSD1024 Support

Musician has introduced the Delphinus external digital-to-analog converter, which uses separate processing sections for PCM and DSD formats. The unit is built around a discrete R-2R architecture and supports high-resolution digital audio, with PCM playback up to 32-bit/1,536 kHz and DSD up to DSD1024.

PCM conversion is handled by an R-2R resistor ladder assembled from components with a claimed accuracy of 0.005%. DSD uses a dedicated conversion path, meaning the two formats are processed by separate sections of the circuitry. This architecture allows the processing of each signal type to be optimized independently.

The Musician Delphinus can operate with oversampling or in NOS mode, where additional oversampling is disabled. Users can also switch between fast and slow digital filters and invert signal phase when required. The front-panel display shows the active input, sampling rate, signal format and selected oversampling ratio.

The suggested retail price of the Musician Delphinus external DAC is $599. This places the Delphinus in the relatively affordable segment of discrete R-2R DACs while still offering DSD1024 support, OS/NOS operation and separate conversion paths for PCM and DSD.
