New active speaker systems Audioengine HD3 Next Gen are presented – the successors of the famous Audioengine HD3 model, released in 2016. The updated speakers are equipped with a 24-bit DAC (versus 16-bit in their predecessors) and have a USB-C input, which is ideal when connecting to a computer for desktop use.
Audioengine also added a Bluetooth version 5.3 module to the new speakers (with support for aptX HD, AAC and SBC codecs) and built an external antenna module into the speaker housings – to increase the connection range.
Audioengine HD3 Next Gen uses class A/B amplifiers, delivering 15 W RMS per channel or 30 W peak power. Each speaker has a 2.75-inch aramid fiber midrange/woofer and a 0.75-inch silk dome tweeter. The operating frequency range is from 65 Hz to 22.000 Hz.
There is also a headphone amplifier (based on the OPA2134 operational amplifier) capable of delivering 380 mW of power when working with a 32 ohm load. The new Audioengine HD3 Next Gen wireless speaker systems will soon go on sale for a suggested retail price of $359.
