Danish company SV-Audio presented its new Astrid floorstanding loudspeakers developed as an independent expression of SV-Audio’s design philosophy – with an emphasis on natural vocal reproduction, musical coherence and a tight, well-controlled low-frequency range.

For a small family company, the launch of a new loudspeaker has become an important milestone rather than a routine catalogue update. SV-Audio describes Astrid as the result of many years of work, countless listening sessions, engineering research and commitment to an idea that took shape even before the brand itself was founded. This presentation may sound rather emotional, but it accurately reflects the nature of the project: Astrid does not look like a hastily added extension to the line-up, but rather like a carefully refined model with its own place in the range.

The name Astrid goes back to the Old Norse Ásfríðr and is usually interpreted as “beloved by the gods”. SV-Audio associates this name with ideas of strength, wisdom and elegance. The loudspeaker’s appearance retains the brand’s characteristic design language: the front panel is made as a solid aluminium plate with a milled logo and the company’s signature radial pattern. According to the manufacturer, this pattern is not purely decorative – it is also intended to reduce unwanted reflections on the front surface, helping to improve focus and increase sonic transparency.

SV-Audio Astrid is a passive two-way floorstanding loudspeaker. Its design uses a 1.5-inch silk dome ring radiator tweeter with a neodymium magnet system, as well as four 5-inch mid/bass drivers with cones made from woven self-reinforced polypropylene. According to the developers, these drivers operate in a coordinated manner within a single frequency range, creating behaviour close to that of a true line-source system. The increased total cone area is intended to provide a larger-scale, freer and more physically tangible presentation.
The Astrid loudspeaker cabinet is built around a two-chamber design. Inside, the drivers are separated into individual bass compartments, which is intended to reduce the influence of standing waves and minimise unwanted interaction between the drivers. In addition, the manufacturer specifies carefully calculated bass-reflex ports, precise time alignment, internal wiring made from pure copper and SV-Audio’s own speaker terminals.

The stated frequency response of the SV-Audio Astrid is 32 Hz – 20 kHz with a tolerance of ±3 dB. Sensitivity is rated at 90 dB, while nominal impedance is 6 ohms. An amplifier with an output power of 25 to 250 watts is recommended for use with the new model. Each loudspeaker measures 106 x 30 x 60 cm and weighs 37 kg. The manufacturer recommends using Astrid in rooms of up to 80 m² and placing the speakers at least 80 cm from the rear wall.
SV-Audio Astrid will be available in satin and gloss finishes. The standard palette includes Pure Black, Pure White, Light Grey, Black Pearl, Crème White, Reference Pearl Grey and Deep Pearl Blue. In addition, the company offers custom paint options, including automotive colours on request.

The recommended retail price for a pair of SV-Audio Astrid loudspeakers in the standard satin finish starts at 41,950 euros. The version in the standard gloss finish is priced higher – from 44,950 euros per pair.
