Vitus Audio SM-025 Doubles Its Class A Power

Danish manufacturer Vitus Audio has expanded its Signature series with the new SM-025 monoblock power amplifiers. The model replaces the SM-011, which remained in production for more than a decade, and retains the brand’s distinctive visual design while featuring an almost completely redesigned internal architecture.

The first Vitus Audio SM-025 prototypes were demonstrated before series production began, so the amplifier cannot quite be considered an entirely new July 2026 release. Nevertheless, the company significantly revised the monoblock’s internal design for the final production version, incorporating a number of engineering solutions previously developed for the flagship SIA-030 integrated amplifier.

The preceding SM-011 model was introduced in 2014 and became one of the first Vitus Audio amplifiers to make extensive use of surface-mount components in its output stages. It also supported the Rock and Classic output-stage coupling modes originally developed for the MP-S201. The new SM-025 likewise operates in Class A and Class AB, but is built on a larger platform and equipped with a completely redesigned output stage.

One of the most important improvements is the doubling of power output in pure Class A. The SM-011 delivered approximately 25 watts into 8 ohms and 50 watts into 4 ohms before switching to Class AB. With the SM-025, Class A output has increased to approximately 50 watts into 8 ohms and 100 watts into 4 ohms. In Class AB mode, the amplifier is capable of delivering around 200 watts into 8 ohms and 400 watts into 4 ohms.

According to Vitus Audio, the increase in power was achieved not simply by raising the bias current, but through a major redesign of the output circuitry and internal layout. The enclosure height has increased from 135 to 177 mm, while the width remains unchanged at 435 mm. The additional internal volume has allowed the company to improve cooling, shielding and electrical isolation between critical sections of the circuitry. Each monoblock weighs 38 kg, which is 2 kg more than the SM-011.

Each amplifier is equipped with a custom-made 1.4 kVA power transformer and a capacitor bank with a total capacity of 180,000 µF. The previous model was specified at 240,000 µF, indicating a fundamental revision of the power-supply architecture rather than a straightforward increase in energy storage. The amplifier employs a fully balanced topology from input to output and operates without global negative feedback.

Connectivity includes a balanced XLR input and an unbalanced RCA input, along with a single pair of loudspeaker terminals. Input sensitivity is rated at 2 V RMS, input impedance at 10 kOhms and output impedance at 0.075 ohms. The signal-to-noise ratio exceeds 110 dB at 1 kHz, while total harmonic and noise distortion is specified at below 0.01%. Frequency response extends from 5 Hz to 100 kHz with the filter engaged and begins at direct current, or 0 Hz, when the filter is disabled.

The Vitus Audio SM-025 monoblock is available in the standard Pure White, Jet Black and Warm Silver finishes. Titanium Orange, Dark Champagne and Titanium Grey are offered at additional cost. In Europe, a pair of monoblocks is priced at approximately €55,000, while the US price is $68,250.
