Focal Diva Alta Utopia – Wireless High-End Acoustics

French company Focal has expanded its Diva Utopia family with a new flagship model, the Diva Alta Utopia. This is an active floorstanding loudspeaker system developed in close collaboration with Naim. The new model combines amplifiers, a DAC, DSP processing, wireless signal transmission and a full streaming platform in a single cabinet. In effect, the buyer gets not just a pair of loudspeakers, but a complete High End system that requires no external amplifier, separate network player or standalone digital-to-analogue converter.

The Diva Alta Utopia takes the top position in the range, which already includes the Diva Utopia and Diva Mezza Utopia. The loudspeaker is built around a four-way bass-reflex design and is intended for large rooms as well as systems of the highest class. Each speaker features four 20.5 cm bass drivers with Focal’s signature W sandwich cones, a 16.5 cm bass/midrange driver, a 13 cm midrange driver with an M-profile cone and a new 27 mm inverted dome tweeter with Prism M-profile technology.

Focal pays particular attention to the new Prism technology used in the high-frequency driver. According to the manufacturer, it combines a multilayer diaphragm structure with a microstructured surface, which is intended to improve precision, uniformity and control in the upper frequency range. In addition, the Diva Alta Utopia incorporates a number of proprietary solutions from Focal’s higher-end loudspeaker lines, including W cones, TMD suspension, IAL tweeter loading and a driver phase-alignment system.

The amplification section was developed by Naim. Each speaker is equipped with four Class AB amplifiers delivering a total power output of 600 W. Amplification is distributed across the individual frequency bands, while the built-in DAC and DSP handle digital signal processing, crossover settings and sound adaptation. Communication between the speakers is handled by Focal’s proprietary Ultra Wideband wireless interface. For higher-resolution signal transmission, the supplied Hi-Res Link cable can be used, supporting streams of up to 24-bit / 192 kHz.

The streaming platform is based on Naim Pulse. The system supports audio playback at resolutions of up to 32-bit / 384 kHz, Wi-Fi 6, Ethernet, Bluetooth 5.3 with aptX Adaptive, AirPlay, Google Cast and UPnP. Compatibility with Spotify Connect, Tidal Connect, Qobuz Connect and QQ Music is also listed. For wired sources, there are HDMI eARC, a digital optical input, analogue RCA and USB. Control is handled via the Focal & Naim mobile app, which provides access to streaming services, internet radio, multiroom functions and room-based sound adjustment using the ADAPT system.

In terms of size, the Diva Alta Utopia fully matches its flagship status: the cabinet stands 148 cm tall, while each speaker weighs around 107 kg. The loudspeaker is designed for rooms of up to 120 square metres. Buyers can choose grey and ivory felt finishes, as well as piano lacquer versions, including black and light-coloured options. The price is also firmly in ultimate High End territory: a pair of Diva Alta Utopia loudspeakers in felt finish will cost 190,000 euros, while the piano lacquer version is priced at 199,990 euros.
