Q Acoustics Expands the 3000c Series with the Compact 3040c Floorstanding Speakers

British manufacturer Q Acoustics has introduced the 3040c floorstanding speaker, expanding its affordable 3000c series. The model is aimed at listeners who want a larger and more substantial sound than bookshelf speakers can provide but are not prepared to accommodate bulky cabinets that take up considerable space in the room.

The Q Acoustics 3040c speakers have been designed primarily for small and medium-sized rooms. Their slim cabinets should make them easier to integrate into a living space while retaining a wide soundstage, strong dynamics and convincing low-frequency performance.

Each speaker is equipped with two 120 mm mid/bass drivers featuring the company’s proprietary C3 Continuous Curved Cone diaphragms. Their profile combines deep, controlled bass with even reproduction across the midrange. The design is also intended to ensure a smoother transition to the frequency range handled by the tweeter. The specified lower frequency limit is 43 Hz at -6 dB.

High frequencies are reproduced by a 22 mm tweeter developed using engineering solutions derived from the more expensive Q Acoustics Concept series. The driver is housed in a hermetically sealed enclosure and mechanically decoupled from the front baffle, reducing the influence of vibrations and pressure generated by the mid/bass drivers. A ventilated rear chamber is intended to further reduce distortion and improve the reproduction of fine details.

The cabinets are reinforced using the company’s proprietary P2P Point-to-Point bracing system. Reinforcing elements are positioned in the areas most susceptible to vibration, helping to reduce sonic coloration and improve the precision of stereo imaging. The speakers also feature HPE Helmholtz Pressure Equaliser technology, which uses internal tubes to equalise pressure and suppress standing waves.

The design of the Q Acoustics 3040c follows the overall styling of the 3000c family. The cabinets feature rounded edges, concealed grille fixings and a single decorative trim surrounding the drivers. Most finishes use Satin Nickel detailing, while the white version is complemented by Satin Chrome elements.

An aluminium stabiliser with top-adjustable spikes is fitted to the base of each speaker. The recessed speaker terminals are mounted on a flat rear panel, simplifying cable connection and allowing the speakers to be positioned relatively close to a wall. The Q Acoustics 3040c is available in four finishes: Satin Black, Satin White, Pin Oak and Claro Walnut. The recommended retail price is $1,099 in the United States or €899 per pair.
