STAX has introduced a new generation of its iconic SR-007 model, STAX SR-007S electrostatic headphones. Available to order from June 30, 2025 for $2,200 the STAX SR-007S continue the lineage started back in 1998 and evolve with modern improvements in design and sound.
This third-generation model retains the signature round cup housing and open-back design, but includes significant updates, many of which are inspired by STAX's current flagship, the SR-X9000. At the heart of the STAX SR-007S are redesigned internal components, including a new diaphragm and fixed electrode structure. STAX engineers reduced the diameter of the vents by 20% compared to previous generations using a high-precision etching process. This change optimizes airflow and improves acoustic output, delivering greater clarity and resolution without sacrificing the signature warm, rich sound of the 007 series.
The frame of the headphones also features what STAX calls an Anti-Resonance Structure (ARS), an engineering solution borrowed from the SR-X9000. The design uses a stainless steel arch to increase rigidity and reduce unwanted vibrations. Together with the new hinge mechanism, this improves comfort and adjustability without the need for manual adjustment
Special attention was also paid to the ear pads - they are made from premium lambskin leather, chosen not only for its soft feel but also for its acoustic properties. The leather reduces internal reflections and improves sound absorption, while the redesigned inner part of the ear pads contributes to a more spacious and precise soundstage. The standard detachable cable is a 2.5-meter parallel six-wire low-capacitance cable that ensures channel balance and signal integrity.
