Schiit Audio has released a new version of the Valhalla headphone amplifier - Schiit Audio Valhalla 3. The model is ready to “pump up” even complex high-impedance headphones and operates in pure Class A with a triode amplification mode. Tube headphone amplifiers are usually expensive - but the price of Schiit Audio Valhalla 3 at $499, again, violates the accepted foundations of the market.
The company claims that Schiit Audio Valhalla 3 is not an upgrade, but a complete rethinking of the concept with the best technologies borrowed from the top model Folkvangr. Thus, Schiit Audio Valhalla 3 works on the OTL / OCL scheme - without output transformers and without capacitors in the signal path. No filters are used, the circuit design is as purist as possible.
The Schiit Valhalla 3 features a load impedance switch, which allows the amplifier to be matched to headphones of different impedances. The Valhalla 3 offers two gain levels (Low – 1.25x, High – 6x) and a zero feedback disable feature (10x), which frees up all the power for high-impedance headphones. Output power reaches 750 mW at 32 ohms and 250 mW at 300 ohms.
