The company Matrix Audio has released the MS-1c network player – a new model in its flagship M-Series. This lineup brings together the brand’s most advanced developments and reflects its current design philosophy: a restrained form, high build quality, and a strong focus on user convenience.
The Matrix Audio MS-1c fills an important gap in the Matrix Audio catalog. While the flagship MS-1 already offered a high-end network DAC, the new model is positioned as a more classic device in the standard 43 cm form factor. This is also reflected in the “c” in its name – classic.

Visually, the Matrix Audio MS-1c closely resembles the higher-end MS-1, but stands out with a more accessible price and a wider choice of finishes: in addition to the silver version, a black option is also available. According to the manufacturer, the unit is designed to combine high resolution with a smoother and more full-bodied sonic presentation.
The Matrix Audio MS-1c is a network streamer with a built-in digital-to-analog converter. It runs on Matrix Audio’s proprietary operating system, which integrates digital signal processing, control, and the user interface into a single cohesive system. Operation is handled via a large touchscreen on the front panel and the MA Remote mobile app.

The streamer supports playback from Qobuz and TIDAL via the MA Remote app, as well as integration with the Roon Labs platform. In addition, the MS-1c can play music from an internal SSD: users can install an NVMe drive themselves in the slot located on the underside of the chassis. This is particularly convenient for those who maintain a local digital music library.
For digital output, the unit provides AES/EBU, S/PDIF RCA, Toslink, IIS-LVDS, and USB Audio connections. At the same time, unlike the flagship model, the MS-1c does not include any digital or analog inputs, meaning it cannot be used as an external DAC for other sources.

Signal conversion is handled by a new implementation based on the AK4191 and AK4499 chipset from Asahi Kasei. One of the model’s more distinctive features is the ability to switch between two types of analog output: a traditional direct-coupled circuit and a transformer-based stage using Lundahl Transformers components. Switching is done with a single button. In the first mode, the listener gets a cleaner and more precise presentation; in the second, a warmer, smoother and more rounded sound. This approach makes the MS-1c a more flexible component, allowing it to be tailored to personal preferences, system matching, or specific musical material.
The Matrix Audio MS-1c network player is already available in silver and black finishes. The recommended retail price in Europe is €5,799.
