Jean-Marie Reynaud Auralis – Loudspeakers with JMR’s Signature Transmission Line

French loudspeaker manufacturer Jean-Marie Reynaud has introduced the new floorstanding Auralis model, which has taken the flagship position in the company’s catalogue. JMR describes this loudspeaker system as an important milestone in the brand’s development: it is intended to combine the company’s accumulated electroacoustic expertise with a more modern, expressive and technically ambitious design philosophy.

One of the key features of the Jean-Marie Reynaud Auralis is the brand’s signature tuned triangular transmission line. This patented solution has long been associated with JMR loudspeakers and is used not merely to achieve deeper bass. Its purpose is to manage the energy of the drivers as efficiently as possible and to make the low-frequency range more natural, faster and more coherent.

According to the developers, the bass in the Auralis should not be perceived separately from the rest of the sound or turned into a demonstration effect. The transmission line helps integrate low frequencies into the overall musical picture while preserving control, clarity, volume and proper spatial presentation.

The speaker cabinets are made from HDF panels with a thickness of 25 to 40 mm: the material thickness varies depending on the load placed on specific sections of the structure. Internal damping is used very sparingly so as not to deprive the system of dynamics and a sense of live response. Viscoelastic materials are used in certain areas to suppress unwanted vibrations.

Special attention has also been paid to the upper part of the cabinet. The separate tweeter chamber is made of epoxy resin, chosen for its stability, rigidity and mechanical inertness. This solution not only improves the operating conditions of the high-frequency driver, but also gives the loudspeaker a more sculptural and expressive silhouette. The Auralis base is also unconventional: instead of traditional spikes, it uses polymer isolating elements and Teflon pads.

In terms of configuration, the Jean-Marie Reynaud Auralis is a 2.5-way floorstanding loudspeaker system. It uses two mid-bass drivers and a 120 mm AST tweeter. Both mid-bass drivers operate together up to 220 Hz, increasing the effective radiating area and reinforcing output in the lower range. The upper mid-bass driver continues to operate above this point and hands over to the tweeter at 1.8 kHz.

The crossover is assembled entirely by hand without the use of a printed circuit board. JMR has opted for a minimal number of components in order to reduce losses, phase distortion and potential sonic coloration. The filter uses pure copper foil inductors mounted on beech holders, ClarityCap PUR capacitors and Path Audio resistors responsible for tweeter damping.

The stated sensitivity of the Jean-Marie Reynaud Auralis loudspeakers is 89 dB at 2.83 V, while the minimum impedance is 4.3 ohms. The frequency response is specified from 30 Hz to 28 kHz with a tolerance of ±6 dB. The speakers are rated for 250 W of continuous power and up to 400 W peak, while the recommended amplifier power ranges from 40 to 300 W. Deliveries of the new flagship model are expected to begin in autumn, with the estimated European price set at €18,000 per pair.
