AKu Audio ONAR – Active Loudspeaker System for Studios and Home Setups

AKu Audio has announced the launch of ONAR, a fully active midfield loudspeaker system aimed at recording professionals and audiophiles who value precision, neutrality and expressive design. The name ONAR translates from Ancient Greek as “dream”, which reflects the developers’ ambition to create a system capable of combining studio-grade sonic accuracy with the aesthetics of premium home audio.

AKu Audio was founded in Athens by brothers George and Kostas Kazantzis. George is responsible for system design, while Kostas oversees the engineering side. The company emphasizes that it sees loudspeakers not as fashionable products shaped by short-term market trends, but as complex engineering systems in which every element must contribute to accurate sound reproduction.

The ONAR loudspeaker system is built around a fully active architecture: amplification and digital signal processing are already integrated into the design. This gives the developers more precise control over each driver, crossover tuning, phase alignment and the system’s behavior in a real listening room. For the user, this means a more complete solution without the need to select separate amplifiers, processors or additional components.

One of the key elements of the design is the cabinet. It has been developed as a massive and rigid platform that minimizes vibrations and unwanted resonances. Each speaker weighs around 35 kg, underlining AKu Audio’s serious approach to mechanical stability and acoustic isolation. This foundation should allow the drivers to operate as predictably and accurately as possible.

ONAR uses drivers with TeXtreme diaphragms, Hypex Ncore amplifier modules and an advanced DSP control system. This combination is intended to deliver high dynamics, low distortion and detailed reproduction of musical material. According to the engineers’ concept, the system should convey to the listener as accurately as possible what was originally intended by the musician, producer or recording engineer.

At the same time, AKu Audio has paid attention not only to the technical side, but also to the system’s visual appearance. ONAR features an unconventional cabinet architecture, making the loudspeaker feel not merely like a working tool, but like an independent design object. This approach makes the model particularly suitable for modern interiors, where equipment is expected to combine functionality with visual expressiveness.

AKu Audio ONAR enters the market as a high-end active system that brings together studio precision, modern amplification and signal-processing technologies, as well as a distinctive visual character. The model is designed for those looking for a compact yet serious solution for professional sound work or home listening at a level close to studio standards. The recommended retail price of the AKu Audio ONAR in Europe is €9,998 per pair of speakers.
