Canor Verto D4S – a DAC from the Canor Foundation Series

The well-known Slovak audio brand Canor Audio has introduced a new line of electronic components called Foundation, which includes the Virtus I4S integrated amplifier (which we have already covered) and the Verto D4S high-resolution external DAC. Both models feature fully discrete circuit design and a minimalist look with glass front panels plus convenient touch control. According to the manufacturer, they are aimed both at discerning newcomers and at “budget-minded” High End buyers.

At the heart of the Canor Verto D4S digital-to-analog converter are two ESS Technology Sabre ES9038 DAC chips operating in a dual-mono configuration, helping deliver a wide dynamic range and exceptionally low noise. The component’s analog output stage is built entirely from discrete elements – its designers have deliberately avoided using op-amps in the signal path.

Connectivity on the Canor Verto D4S includes a USB-C port, AES/EBU input, a coaxial input, two optical inputs, and an HDMI ARC port for connecting a TV. Analog outputs are provided in both balanced (XLR) and unbalanced (RCA) form, making the Verto D4S easy to pair with a wide range of sources – from classic CD transports and streamers to a living-room television. The Canor Verto D4S can decode PCM streams with sampling rates up to 768 kHz. DSD is supported both via DoP (DSD64/128/256) and in native mode up to DSD512. Eight switchable digital filters allow the sound to be tailored to personal preferences.

A standout feature of the Canor Verto D4S is its 18-cm high-resolution color touch display that covers almost the entire front panel. It clearly shows all operating parameters and enables modern, highly convenient on-device control. “Clean” power is handled by a linear power supply with separate voltage stabilizers for the digital and analog sections, helping minimize mutual interference and ensure stable operation.

The Canor Audio Verto D4S external DAC will go on sale in Europe in February in three finish options: silver, black, and bronze. The recommended retail price is €2,449.
