At CES 2026, which has opened in Las Vegas, the British brand Cambridge Audio unveiled a new series of active loudspeaker systems, Cambridge Audio L/R, combining amplification, streaming and the company’s proprietary acoustic technologies. A pair of these speakers forms a fully self-contained audio system that requires neither an external source nor an amplifier. The lineup currently includes three models: Cambridge Audio L/R X, Cambridge Audio L/R M, and Cambridge Audio L/R S. Different models in the series are designed for different use cases and room sizes – from compact desktop listening to filling large living spaces with sound.

Two models – Cambridge Audio L/R X and L/R M – are equipped with the proprietary StreamMagic Gen 4 streaming platform, providing audio playback over Wi-Fi or Ethernet and access to services such as TIDAL Connect, Spotify Connect, Qobuz Connect, Amazon Music, Deezer, internet radio and UPnP, as well as Roon Ready certification. Multi-room functionality is supported via Google Cast and Apple AirPlay 2.

The entry-level Cambridge Audio L/R S model is designed for nearfield listening. It does not feature StreamMagic and instead focuses on wireless playback via Bluetooth aptX HD, along with physical connections including USB Audio for computer use. These speakers are intended for use on a desk, in a bedroom or kitchen, and offer a simpler configuration compared with the higher-end models.

The Cambridge Audio L/R X and L/R M loudspeakers use a 2.5-way configuration and are equipped with a new 28 mm Torus tweeter developed by Cambridge Audio. The L/R X is the flagship of the series, featuring two 5-inch woofers and a pair of 6-inch passive radiators. The Cambridge Audio L/R M is a scaled-down version of the flagship, designed for smaller rooms.

Connectivity options across the L/R active speaker series cover a wide range of interfaces. The Cambridge Audio L/R X and L/R M models are equipped with an HDMI eARC port for TV connection, Bluetooth, analogue and digital inputs, as well as a Phono input for connecting a turntable with an MM cartridge. Communication between the two speakers in a stereo pair can be carried out via a USB-C cable or wirelessly using WiSA HT, expanding system installation flexibility.

All three models in the Cambridge Audio L/R series share a unified design language. Each model is offered in six finish options, including a Real Walnut version. According to the company, special emphasis was placed on visual presence while maintaining ease of integration into a domestic interior.

The Cambridge Audio L/R series speakers will be released in stages throughout 2026. The entry-level Cambridge Audio L/R S (recommended retail price $549 / €499, or $599 / €549 in Real Walnut finish) will arrive in spring 2026. The Cambridge Audio L/R X speakers (recommended retail price $2,299 / €1,999, or $2,399 / €2,099 in Real Walnut finish) are scheduled for summer 2026, while the Cambridge Audio L/R M (recommended retail price $1,599 / €1,399, or $1,699 / €1,499 in Real Walnut finish) will follow toward the end of summer 2026.
