The first and only turntable in the model range of the famous British company Cyrus, the Cyrus TTP Turntable fits perfectly with the rest of the company's models range (from the Classic PHONO to the Cyrus Classic or XR preamplifiers or integrated amplifiers) and offers extraordinary playback quality in its price category. We tested the turntable and studied it in all details - let's understand both the design of the player and its musical capabilities.
So, the Cyrus TTP is turned out of solid aluminum billets - this applies to both the cabinet (with damped chassis), and the platter. As a result, the compact (120 x 430 x 376 mm) device turns out to be "impossible" - the weight of the vinyl player reaches 24 kg. This approach, even without a suspension system, ensures vibration minimization – we have a full-fledged high-mass turntable concept, but in much more modest dimensions than competitors in higher price groups.
The turntable's feet are adjustable and have the option of being replaced with more advanced ones if you decide to upgrade. The supplied PSU is suitable for 90-264 V operation, and the device can also be upgraded using a proprietary external power supply – simply by connecting it to the PSX-R2 upgrade port. The spindle of the platter uses high precision bearing with oil-damping, which ensures stable rotation.
Cyrus TTP Turntable is equipped with a belt drive and uses the synchronous integrated DC motor, which has a custom-designed digital control circuit and electronic speed control for 33 1/3 and 45 RPM. There is no 78th speed. The wow and flutter is extremely low - 0.1%. The buyer can also order a branded dust cover with side hand-holds, which are very convenient to use.
The Cyrus TTP Turntable comes with a factory-installed tonearm Rega RB330 designed using intelligent redistribution of mass to ensure it will exhibit fewer points of resonance. The precision bearing system ensures perfect movement in all planes and precise tracking. But there is no VTA adjustment. One interesting feature worth noting is the on-board grounding port - so that if background noise occurs (due to the special grounding in the power line of a particular room), the fight against it will be effective.
When testing the Cyrus TTP Turntable, we used the Ortofon 2M Red cartridge and a path consisting of a complete Cyrus 40th Anniversary Series set - 40 AMP, 40 ST and 40 PSU (we alternately connected and disconnected the external power supply, it must be said that its effect on the detailing of the sound picture was undeniable) with HECO Belladonna, Celan Revolution 9 loudspeakers.
The Cyrus TTP Turntable demonstrates a traditional signature presentation with an exceptional sense of rhythm and "groovy" dynamics, from which your legs themselves start dancing.
To draw the most subtle microdynamic contrasts, another cartridge would have been required, but the device also revealed the capabilities of the current cartridge in an incredible way, simply immersing us in audio nirvana.
The presentation of Led Zeppelin II (Plum UK pressing) was like a waterfall - the effect of a wall of sound with excellent bass guitar rendering was impeccable. The black tone in the pauses also deserved special praise.
The Cyrus TTP Turntable handled the first Dire Straits album just as effectively - it beautifully laid out the instrumental parts in space, created a tangible and continuous sound canvas and conveyed all the contrasts of the vocals. The macrodynamic splashes were especially impressive - here we clearly went beyond the limits of this price category and could only applaud the turntable.
Finally, switching to Dvorak Symphony no. 5 Istvan Kertesz (Decca) showed that the Cyrus TTP Turntable is up to much more complex musical works - the symphony orchestra literally breathed deeply in the turntable's presentation, and the reproduction was timbre-balanced and precise.
The Cyrus TTP Turntable is a discreet turntable that delivers outstanding sound quality for its price. The meticulous attention to detail and the company's rich heritage have resulted in a truly impressive product that we highly recommend.
