Wilson Audio Autobiography – New Five-way Flagship from the Legendary Brand

American company Wilson Audio has introduced its flagship floorstanding loudspeaker system, the Autobiography. Standing more than two meters tall, the model now occupies the top position in the company’s catalogue, above the WAMM Master Chronosonic and Chronosonic XVX.

The Wilson Audio Autobiography loudspeakers are equipped with eight drivers developed specifically for this model. These include two 7-inch PentaMag midrange drivers, a pair of 2-inch Midband Integration Drivers, a front-facing CSLS tweeter, two woofers measuring 12 and 15 inches, and a rear-facing tweeter.

The front-facing Convergent Synergy Laser Sintered tweeter represents a new stage in the evolution of Wilson’s Convergent Synergy platform. Its rear wave chamber has been redesigned, which should help lower the noise floor. The 2-inch Midband Integration Drivers are intended to provide a smoother transition between the speed of the tweeter and the scale of the larger midrange drivers.

The PentaMag midrange driver now uses five AlNiCo magnets instead of the previous four. According to Wilson Audio, this increases motor strength and improves linearity under high load. The rear-facing tweeter, with an inverted dome made from aerospace-grade carbon fiber, operates from 6 to 22 kHz and supports level adjustment from 0 to -40 dB to adapt the sound to the acoustic characteristics of a specific room.

For the Autobiography, Wilson Audio has developed a new mechanical module-alignment system for phase synchronization. The manufacturer claims that its time-alignment accuracy surpasses the solutions used in the WAMM Master Chronosonic and Chronosonic XVX. In addition, the loudspeaker features an adjustable bass-reflex port that allows users to change the direction of radiation and adjust the bass interaction with the room by approximately 1.5 dB in the 10 – 130 Hz range.

The crossovers for the Wilson Audio Autobiography are hand-assembled using point-to-point wiring, without printed circuit boards. The filters use copper versions of Wilson’s proprietary AudioCapX-WA capacitors and Rel-Cap components selected to a tolerance of 0.2%.

The cabinet of the Wilson Audio Autobiography loudspeaker system is made using Wilson’s proprietary H-, V- and X-Material composites, as well as carbon fiber, aerospace-grade aluminum, stainless steel, copper and gold. Wilson Audio acoustic diodes are included as standard. The maximum height of the system is about 2,120 mm: slightly lower than the WAMM Master Chronosonic, but taller than the Chronosonic XVX.

Autobiography is Wilson Audio’s first completely new flagship since the death of company founder David A. Wilson in 2018. It is also the first model created under current co-president Daryl Wilson and positioned above the Chronosonic XVX.

The recommended retail price of the Wilson Audio Autobiography loudspeakers in the US market is $788,000 per pair.
