Segno Maya – Samarium-Cobalt Magnet on Mach

11.08.2025 05:03 | ~1 minute read

The Segno Maya MC cartridge for vinyl is presented — the model uses a rare-earth samarium-cobalt magnetic system and four hand-wound 5N (99.999%) silver coils mounted on a square permalloy core.

Unlike many competitors, the more expensive (compared to neodymium) samarium-cobalt magnetic system in the Segno Maya cartridge provides better field recovery after signal induction in the coil. And thus guarantees more accurate sound.

Other features of the Segno Maya include a Line Contact diamond stylus on a titanium tubular cantilever — the manufacturer deliberately chose this material for its lack of resonance effects compared to boron.

The generator unit is installed in an aluminum housing, anodized in dark blue. The stereo output from the generator is fed to the cartridge contacts via pure silver wires. The UK recommended retail price for the Segno Maya MC cartridge is £999.95.
