The British company Origin Live has announced the fifth generation of tonearms for vinyl record turntables Origin Live Mk5. The Origin Live Mk5 tonearm series implements technologies borrowed from more expensive lines, such as a multi-layer counterweight.
The multi-layer advanced MLC counterweight design absorbs and dissipates vibrations along the arm tube and reduces resonant reflections from the counterweight to the arm tube. Crucially, some of the weight is carried by the outrigger, which places the center of gravity of the structure below the pivot point. This provides greater stability when reading information from the record.
Origin Live Mk5 tonearms use dual-pivot technology, which has the best torsional resistance and provides the greatest azimuth stability of the stylus element. Single-pivot tonearms, according to the company, do not have this quality. And the proprietary solution combines all the best elements for both exceptional stability from the arm tube, and for freedom of movement of the cartridge.
Origin Live Mk5 tonearm tubes have been redesigned, which should significantly improve channel separation. There is no rubber or foam inside the tubes - the solution used does not have excess damping or residual vibration. The new Mk5 tonearm range represents the culmination of nearly four decades of Origin Live's experimental development in the field of vinyl playback.
For Onyx to Encounter tonearms the MK5 version looks identical to MK4 arms. From Illustrious the MKV arms have a multilayer counterweight. Full specs will be available on Bristol Hi-Fi Show 2025.
