Japanese company Esoteric has introduced the new T-01 turntable, incorporating technologies previously developed for the flagship Grandioso T1. The model features a contactless magnetic drive system, magnetic bearing load reduction, and the ability to connect an external 10 MHz master clock.

At the heart of the design is Esoteric’s proprietary MagneDrive system. Instead of a belt, idler-wheel mechanism, or conventional direct drive, rotation is generated through magnetic interaction between the motor’s drive element and a steel induction ring mounted on the aluminum platter. There is no physical contact between the motor and the platter, which helps reduce the transmission of vibrations while eliminating the need to service or replace a drive belt.

The massive 13 kg platter is complemented by the Magne-Float system, which uses magnetic force to reduce the effective load on the main bearing to approximately 4 kg. This approach is intended to lower friction and mechanical noise while retaining the inertial benefits of a heavy platter. The T-01 uses an inverted bearing with its support point positioned closer to the level of the record.

Compared with the flagship Grandioso T1, the construction has been somewhat simplified: the MagneDrive motor is now integrated directly into the chassis. The motor itself is housed in Esoteric’s Vibration Absorber Case, while the power supply and motor control circuitry are located in a separate external unit. The turntable base uses a three-layer aluminum and MDF structure and rests on specially designed damped feet. The T-01 also supports external Esoteric master clocks via a 50-ohm BNC input, allowing the system to be synchronized to a 10 MHz reference signal.

The turntable operates at 33⅓ and 45 rpm, with speed adjustment available in 0.1% increments over a range of approximately ±12%. The specified wow and flutter figure is no more than 0.06% WRMS. The standard version comes with the Esoteric TA-9S tonearm, featuring an effective length of 232 mm and an adjustable tracking force of up to 3 g. The design also allows a second tonearm to be installed, including third-party models when used with a suitable armboard.

The main Esoteric T-01 unit weighs 35 kg and measures 539 × 206 × 432 mm, while the separate power supply adds another 7 kg. In Europe, the version fitted with the TA-9S tonearm is priced at €48,000, while the T-01 AL version without a tonearm costs €45,000. A phono cartridge is not included with either version. Despite being less expensive than the Grandioso T1, the T-01 remains firmly in the ultra-premium segment, where even platter rotation becomes an engineering discipline complete with its own external clock. European sales are expected to begin in late September 2026.
