New SVS 5000 R|Evolution Subwoofers Introduced

SVS has announced the release of two new subwoofers in the 5000 R|Evolution series. These subwoofers boast a 15" driver, dual amplification, and the most powerful DSP ever used in a subwoofer. 

These subwoofers differ in their acoustic design: the SVS SB-5000 R|Evolution subwoofer is housed in a sealed enclosure, while the SVS PB-5000 R|Evolution subwoofer features a bass-reflex design. For this new 15" woofer, SVS developed the first-ever dual edge-wound voice coil, which ensures stable current transfer from the dual mono amplifier to the 38-pound toroidal ferrite magnet motor, delivering highly accurate bass. A copper-clad aluminum voice coil combines the best properties of two elements.

The proprietary SVS design features a long-throw parabolic NBR surround for extreme excursion, sound pressure levels, and longevity. A lightweight and rigid glass fiber laminated dustcap moves massive amounts of air. Dual STA-2000D Class-D monoblock amplifiers, rated at 2,000 watts continuous (first-ever) and over 5,000 watts peak, are cleverly configured - each amplifier powers one of the dual voice coils to increase the current into the motor while asserting pinpoint control and increasing output potential. Eight 60-amp 200-volt MOSFETs deliver near-limitless power. The icing on the cake is a built-in AC line filter with power factor correction.

A 295 MHz Analog Devices DSP processor controls all amplifier functions, shaping the room's frequency response and stabilizing the AC voltage supply, while simultaneously managing a multi-point temperature and current monitoring system for optimal performance. Advanced digital audio processing and a DAC with a 120 dB signal-to-noise ratio ensure greater headroom and low noise levels.

Auto EQ, an automatic room correction feature, will be available on the R|Evolution 5000 subwoofers soon. It operates via the app and a smartphone microphone.
