The Swiss company Nagra has introduced a new phono preamplifier, the Nagra Compact Phono, offered for a relatively modest price of $4,950 by the company’s standards. The model, housed in a miniature aluminum vibration-controlled case, offers the highest performance and uses circuitry with the shortest signal path to achieve ideal MC correction.
The Nagra Compact Phono continues the traditions and development strategy of the company’s product line, carefully preserving the heritage laid down in the microphone preamplifier in the Nagra IV-S reel-to-reel tape recorder. The heart of the system, as before, is a 10 dB step-up transformer. At the same time, externally corresponding to the style of the Nagra Streamer, the Nagra Compact Phono offers a modern and stylish appearance.
Nagra Compact Phono uses dual-mono layout, all discrete-component topology and selected transistors operating in class A. Selectable gain of 62 / 47.5 dB allows flexible device configuration, and upgrade options using external Nagra MPS or Classic PSU power supplies further improve sound quality.
