Musical Fidelity M6xi – Integrated Amplifier with an Expanded Digital Section

Musical Fidelity has introduced the M6xi integrated amplifier, in which the proven analog platform of the SI series has been further developed through broader digital functionality and additional options for integration into modern audio systems. Compared to its predecessor, the M6si, the new model has become not only more versatile, but also slightly more powerful.

One of the key distinguishing features of the Musical Fidelity M6xi integrated amplifier is its expanded range of connectivity. The new model is equipped with optical, coaxial, and HDMI ARC inputs, as well as a USB-C port. For installation as part of more complex setups, an RS232 interface is provided, simplifying operation with automation and control systems. In addition, there is a USB-A 5 V / 2 A port on board, which can be used to power an external streamer or another compatible device.

The model is also designed for use not only in a classic stereo system, but also as part of a home theater setup. For this purpose, a home-theater bypass input is provided, allowing the Musical Fidelity M6xi to be used as a two-channel power amplifier in a multichannel configuration.

From a technical perspective, the amplifier offers a noticeable increase in power compared to its predecessor. The rated output is 230 watts per channel into an 8-ohm load and 390 watts into 4 ohms. The design uses an amplifier topology developed on the basis of solutions from the flagship TITAN series, while the Darlington output stage is intended to reduce distortion, minimize crossover artifacts, and make the presentation cleaner and more stable.

Musical Fidelity has also paid special attention to the device’s internal architecture. The optimized PCB layout helps reduce imbalance between circuits, while the fully analog power supplies are intended, according to the designers, to limit the influence of high-frequency noise and electromagnetic interference. All of this is aimed at improving the overall transparency of the sound and the stability of the amplifier’s operation.

The amplifier’s preamp stage has also been designed with a focus on low noise and precise performance across the entire volume range. A Burr-Brown stepped attenuator is used for accurate channel matching. In addition, the feature set includes a pre-out output for connecting a subwoofer or arranging bi-amping, as well as a built-in phono stage compatible with both MM and MC cartridges.

The chassis of the Musical Fidelity M6xi integrated amplifier is made entirely of metal. The front panel, side panels, and top cover are manufactured from machined extruded aluminum profiles. This construction not only gives the unit a solid appearance, but also provides additional protection for the internal circuits against external interference.
