Mission 778S – Network Player Expanding the Compact 778 Audio Component Series

23.01.2026 07:27 | ~1 minute read

The legendary British brand Mission continues to thoughtfully develop its compact 778 series of audio components. After the successful debut of the Mission 778X integrated amplifier, the lineup has taken a logical next step: the Mission 778S network player has joined the amplifier, turning the series into a complete two-piece system – compact, and rational in a distinctly British way.

The Mission 778S compact network player marks an important milestone for the brand, as it is Mission’s first standalone streamer ever. Its software was developed in collaboration with specialists from Silent Angel and uses a modified version of their software platform. Support for Spotify Connect, Tidal Connect, Qobuz Connect, TuneIn, AirPlay 2, and DLNA/UPnP – along with Roon Ready certification – makes the Mission 778S an easy fit for virtually any modern digital ecosystem.

On the digital side, the engineers chose the ESS Technology ES9038Q2M DAC chip, known for its high resolution and low jitter performance. The signal-processing architecture includes upsampling to 352.8/384 kHz, aimed at reducing phase distortion. As a result, the presentation remains controlled, articulate, and free from harsh digital edges.

Connectivity is generous for a component of this size: alongside standard RCA outputs, it also features balanced XLR outputs, as well as a high-quality headphone amplifier.

The Mission 778S network player is available in black and silver finishes, with a recommended retail price of 1,699 USD.
