Mission 778CDT – CD Transport and Digital Audio File Player Goes on Sale

The compact optical disc transport Mission 778CDT was first unveiled in May last year at the High End Show in Munich, and the model has now officially gone on sale. The new product is part of the Mission 778 Series lineup, which also includes the 778X integrated amplifier and the recently announced 778S network player. The transport features an OLED display with adjustable brightness and is housed in a compact aluminium chassis.

The chassis, internal architecture and shielded optical disc drive have been designed to minimise vibration and interference. A high-precision CD mechanism and a specially developed servo system ensure stable disc rotation and accurate data reading, while every element of the laser pickup and servo drive has been optimised to reduce read errors and jitter to a minimum.

The servo drive architecture and control system are based on a dual-core processor featuring a 32-bit RISC CPU and a dedicated microcontroller. The power supply employs a toroidal transformer with an ultra-low noise level, helping to isolate critical circuits.

The servo and decoder section of the Mission 778CDT is controlled by a main thermally compensated quartz oscillator, powered by its own ultra-low-noise linear regulator and grounding scheme. In addition to standard CDs, the transport plays CD-R and CD-RW discs, as well as digital files in FLAC, WAV, WMA, AAC, MP3 and APE formats from storage devices connected via the rear-panel USB-A port.

The Mission 778CDT will go on sale in the UK at the end of January with a recommended retail price of £449.
