Lumïn P2 – the New Network Hub Combines Streamer, DAC and Preamplifier

The brand Lumïn has launched the second generation of its network hub, the Lumïn P2, combining the functions of a streamer, digital-to-analogue converter and preamplifier. The new model develops the ideas of the P1, but offers a more powerful processing platform, a more advanced DAC section and expanded integration options for a modern audio system. According to the manufacturer, the Lumïn P2 is intended to serve as the central element of a contemporary High End system. The device combines a network player, DAC and preamplifier in a single chassis, making it possible to build a compact yet functionally rich digital front end.

The new model is a development of the Lumïn P1, but in the P2 the manufacturer has placed emphasis on greater computing power and technologies closer to those of the flagship X Series. At the heart of the unit is a new System-on-Chip platform providing expanded capabilities for upsampling and digital signal processing. Supported digital audio formats include PCM up to 32-bit/384 kHz and native DSD512.

The DAC section of the Lumïn P2 is built around two ES9038PRO SABRE chips from ESS Technology operating in a dual-mono configuration. The analogue output stage is complemented by Lundahl output transformers, which are intended to provide better signal isolation and more accurate channel separation.

Serious attention has also been paid to the power supply. The device uses a built-in linear power supply with two toroidal transformers. Separate power rails for the digital and analogue sections are intended by the designers to help reduce noise and improve the stability of the entire circuit.

One of the key strengths of the Lumïn P2 remains its versatility. The unit is equipped with nine digital and analogue inputs, including USB, balanced and unbalanced analogue connections, SPDIF, AES and HDMI. This allows it to be used not only in a classic hi-fi system, but also as the central audio component for working with external media sources. To improve timing accuracy, the developers have implemented a dual femto-clock system and FPGA-based signal distribution aimed at reducing jitter. In addition, the Lumïn P2 supports connection to an optical fibre network, providing galvanic isolation from traditional Ethernet and reducing the risk of electrical interference entering the audio path.

HDMI support has been expanded to the HDMI 2.0 standard with 4K passthrough and ARC. This makes it possible to integrate the Lumïn P2 into a two-channel system working in conjunction with a television. CEC volume control is also provided, making everyday use more convenient. The device is controlled via Lumïn’s proprietary app for iOS and Android. Compatibility with third-party platforms, including Roon, JPLAY and Audirvana, is also specified. Supported streaming services include Spotify Connect, Tidal with Tidal Max, Qobuz, KKBOX, TuneIn, Amazon Music and AirPlay.

Lumïn positions the P2 network hub as a highly flexible solution: the device can function as a standalone network player, an external DAC, a digital preamplifier or the central hub of a complete two-channel system. The manufacturer also suggests using the P2 in combination with the company’s Lumïn Amp stereo power amplifier, connecting it directly via the Leedh Processing volume control system without the need for a separate analogue preamplifier.
