The F Two is a compact active subwoofer from Genelec's home range, designed to extend the G One and G Two speakers, including systems of up to five of them in 5.1, or a pair of G Three, while two linked units are recommended with the G Four. The current version replaced the earlier F Two (A), which weighed 9.8 kg.

Key specs that matter

A 205 mm (8-inch) magnetically shielded driver runs from a 150 W Class D amplifier. Response is 27 Hz to 85 Hz at -6 dB for the main channels and 27 Hz to 120 Hz for LFE. Maximum output is 103 dB. A subsonic filter works at 18 dB per octave below 27 Hz, and the bass management crossover is fixed at 85 Hz. Inputs are RCA left and right, a 3.5 mm stereo jack, an RCA LFE/LINK input, Toslink optical and RCA coaxial digital at 32 to 96 kHz. Outputs are XLR and RCA left and right, both high-passed at 85 Hz, plus an RCA LINK. Power use is 0.5 W in standby, 11 W at idle and 150 W at full output, from 100 to 240 V. The cylindrical die-cast aluminium enclosure is 300 mm high with a diameter of 362 mm and weighs 8.5 kg.

Engineering and use context

Because the F Two accepts both analogue and digital sources and sends high-passed signals to the main speakers, it can act as the hub of a small system, taking a TV over optical and a streamer over RCA. An IR input lets the subwoofer learn commands from an existing remote, a wireless remote is supplied, and a socket accepts the optional 9310A wired volume control. Controls include a SELECT button, a SUBW LEVEL rotary and DIP switches for Roll-Off of -2, -4 or -6 dB at 27 Hz, phase of 0, -90, -180 or -270 degrees, LINK, LEVEL at +10 or -10 dB, HT MODE, ISS, ISS SENSITIVITY LOW and LED OFF. Linking several units adds output, by 6 dB for two, 9.5 dB for three and 12 dB for four. The aluminium housing sits on feet.

Pairing

A pair of G One or G Two takes its signal from the RCA or XLR outputs, so that the lowest bass goes to the F Two. Home cinema systems use the LFE input and HT MODE. Sources with only a digital output, such as a TV or games console, connect directly through Toslink or coaxial, since the F Two converts the signal itself, while the mini-jack input takes a phone or laptop. The F Two is offered in black and white to match the G Series.
