The 7360A is an active studio subwoofer from Genelec, part of the company's SAM range of networked monitors and subwoofers. It sits between the 7350A with an 8 inch driver and the 7370A with a 12 inch driver, and the range continues upward with the 7380A and 7382A. It is designed to extend Genelec monitors into the lowest octave in stereo and multichannel systems.

Key specs that matter

A magnetically shielded 250 mm driver is powered by a 300 W Class D amplifier. Frequency response is 19 Hz to 150 Hz at -6 dB and ±3 dB from 19 Hz to 100 Hz. Maximum short-term output is 109 dB, averaged across 30 to 85 Hz, and peak output is 114 dB. Second and third harmonic distortion typically stays more than 30 dB below the fundamental. Analogue connections are 7.1 channels of XLR inputs and outputs, with seven main channels and an LFE channel, and there are AES/EBU XLR input and output connectors and two RJ45 network ports. The subwoofer is 527 mm high, 462 mm wide and 363 mm deep, and it weighs 27 kg.

Engineering and use context

The enclosure follows Genelec's Laminar Spiral Enclosure design, in which the reflex port is formed as a spiral inside the cabinet. The curved shape lets air move through the port without turbulence, allowing a long port for low tuning in a compact box while avoiding port noise at high levels. The magnetically shielded driver can be placed close to equipment sensitive to stray magnetic fields. Built-in bass management directs low frequencies from up to seven main channels to the subwoofer, and passes the rest of the signal on through the outputs to the main monitors. This works for stereo and for multichannel systems, so the 7360A can support a 7.1 layout from a single cabinet. The AES/EBU connections handle digital signals without extra conversion. The RJ45 ports connect it to the Genelec control network used by other SAM products, from which level, delay, crossover phase and equalisation are set. A computer running Genelec's software, with a GLM kit or the 9320A controller, is needed for this network setup.

Pairing

The 7360A is intended for Genelec SAM monitors such as the coaxial 8351B, which share the same control network. The analogue outputs also feed monitors from other makers through the bass management. In stereo systems one unit covers both channels, and larger rooms can use more than one subwoofer.

Alternatives

The Genelec 7370A is the larger SAM subwoofer for higher output.
