The 7350A is the smallest subwoofer in Genelec's Smart Active Monitoring range. It is designed for the 8320A monitor in stereo or multichannel systems and for the 8330A in stereo, and all of its settings are made through Genelec's GLM software, which also configures the monitors connected to it.
Key specs that matter
Genelec fits a 205 mm (8-inch) driver with magnetic shielding and a 150 W Class D amplifier. The response is 22 Hz to 160 Hz at -6 dB and 25 Hz to 150 Hz within ±3 dB. Maximum output averaged over 30 to 85 Hz is 104 dB, second harmonic distortion is below 4% and third harmonic below 1%, and self-noise is under 5 dB. A subsonic filter rolls off at 18 dB per octave below 20 Hz, and the LFE cut-off is 150 Hz. Connections are five XLR analogue inputs, five XLR outputs and an XLR LFE input, an AES/EBU digital input and output at 32 to 192 kHz and 16 to 24 bit, and two RJ45 ports for the GLM network. The analogue outputs carry an unfiltered copy of the input signals. Power use is below 0.5 W in ISS standby, 8.5 W idle and 150 W at full output. The cabinet is 410 mm high, 350 mm wide and 319 mm deep and weighs 19 kg.
Engineering and use context
There are no DIP switches on the 7350A. Crossover, level, phase and delay are set in GLM 2.0 or later, which provides 20 notch filters, 160 ms of delay and 60 dB of level adjustment, and ISS is disabled in the factory default. For the digital input, GLM also selects subframe A, B or the sum of both. Its cabinet is built on the Laminar Spiral Enclosure concept, a bass reflex design whose spiral port gives smooth airflow at high output, and the port requires 7.5 cm of clearance. Protection circuits cover driver overload, amplifier temperature and driver short circuits. The mains setting is 100, 120 or 230 V.
Pairing
In a SAM system the 7350A sits on the same GLM network as the monitors, and the software manages the crossover between them. Analogue sources such as an audio interface connect over XLR, and digital consoles over AES/EBU. The five inputs and outputs allow a 5.1 set of SAM monitors to be routed through the subwoofer, with the LFE channel on its own socket. Its compact size suits small studios and home systems with compact SAM monitors.
Alternatives
The Genelec 7360A is the next SAM subwoofer up, with a 250 mm driver, a 300 W Class D amplifier and 7.1 analogue connections.
