The 7370A is a SAM studio subwoofer from Genelec of Iisalmi, Finland, built around a 12 inch driver and aimed at music, post-production and broadcast rooms. Genelec says it is made to give decades of dependable service in heavy professional use. Within the SAM subwoofer family it sits above the 10 inch 7360A and below the 7380A.
Key specs that matter
A 305 mm cone woofer without magnetic shielding is powered by a 400 W Class D amplifier. Response runs from 19 Hz to 150 Hz at the -6 dB points, and accuracy is held within ±3 dB between 19 Hz and 100 Hz. Short-term maximum output averaged over 30 to 85 Hz is at least 113 dB, with peaks of 118 dB or more, both measured in half-space at 1 m. Second harmonic distortion stays at or under 3 percent across 30 to 85 Hz, and self-generated noise is no higher than 5 dB SPL A-weighted at 1 m. The cabinet measures 625 mm high, 555 mm wide and 496 mm deep, and the unit weighs 48 kg. Power draw is up to 20 W at idle, 400 W at full output and 1 W or less in standby, from 100 to 240 V mains at 50 or 60 Hz.
Engineering and use context
The enclosure uses Genelec's Laminar Spiral Enclosure, a reflex design in which a long curved port is coiled inside the box. Genelec reports that this keeps measured second and third harmonic products typically more than 30 dB under the fundamental, even at high playback levels. The active crossover processes the signal before it reaches the power stage. Seven balanced XLR analogue inputs and matching outputs, a dedicated LFE input and output, and AES/EBU digital input and output on XLR let the subwoofer sit between a multichannel source and the main monitors, drawing low bass from all channels through its onboard bass management. Two RJ45 sockets join it to the GLM network, through which level, delay, frequency and crossover phase are set, and this requires either the 9320A controller or a GLM kit bought separately. Intelligent Signal Sensing drops the unit into a low-power state once the input goes quiet, and protection circuitry detects excessive drive and reduces it before the woofer is damaged. Genelec covers the unit for two years, or five once it is registered at no cost, and the box includes a 1.8 m mains lead and a 5 m network cable.
Pairing
The 7370A is meant to work alongside Genelec SAM monitors on the same GLM network, where the whole system is configured from one computer. Its analogue and digital outputs also allow it to feed other active monitors after bass management. Being unshielded, the driver should be kept away from equipment sensitive to magnetic fields.
Alternatives
The Genelec 7380A moves to a 15 inch driver with 800 W of amplification for higher output and a lower 16 Hz limit.
