The 7382A is a Genelec subwoofer from the SAM studio range, introduced with a press release on 7 August 2018 together with the S360 monitor. It is designed for large control rooms, film mixing stages and large multichannel studios, where it can be flush-mounted into a wall on vibration isolators.

Key specs that matter

Three 381 mm (15-inch) long-throw drivers are driven by a separate RAM-SW amplifier unit delivering 2500 W short term in Class D. The -6 dB response is 15 Hz to 100 Hz, with the LFE upper limit at 120 Hz. Short-term output reaches 129 dB or more and peak output 133 dB or more. At 105 dB, second harmonic distortion is 1% or less and third harmonic 1.5% or less. The crossover is adjustable from 50 to 100 Hz in GLM with distributed bass management, and phase is set in 15 degree steps. The amplifier has two XLR analogue inputs and outputs with a maximum level of +24 dBu, an XLR LFE input with an optional +10 dB setting, AES/EBU input and thru, two RJ45 GLM ports and a socket for a remote LED. Consumption is under 1 W in ISS standby, 22 W idle and 1500 W at full output, from 100 to 240 V. The enclosure measures 625 x 1400 x 558 mm and weighs 145 kg, and the amplifier adds 11.3 kg.

Engineering and use context

The RAM-SW amplifier is a 3U rack unit measuring 132 x 483 x 286 mm, connected to the enclosure by Speakon and supplied with a 10 m cable. Genelec calibrates each amplifier to its own enclosure. Placing the electronics in a rack keeps heat and weight out of the wall opening and allows the enclosure to be built into a soffit. The cabinet is heavily braced fibreboard, and a laminar-flow reflex port runs along the entire rear wall, needing 20 cm of clearance. GLM provides 20 notch filters, and an optional 9301A interface adds a 7.1 digital input. A light on the amplifier shows red for clipping and yellow for thermal overload.

Pairing

The 7382A integrates with Genelec SAM monitors through GLM, where crossover and bass management for the whole system are configured. Analogue XLR or AES/EBU sources connect at the amplifier, and the LFE input carries the effects channel of a film soundtrack. Its size and weight make it an installation product for rooms designed around it.
