The Børresen X2 is the shortest and slimmest tower of the X-series, the entry line of Danish loudspeaker brand Børresen Acoustics, and it reached the market in November 2023. This passive three-unit model combines a planar ribbon tweeter with one 4.5-inch bass/midrange cone and one 4.5-inch bass cone. Launch pricing was EUR 8,000 or USD 8,800 per pair. The speaker is made in Denmark, where drivers are developed by the company itself.

Key specs that matter

The official data gives a response of 40 Hz to 50 kHz, a sensitivity of 88 dB at 1 W and a load that stays above 4 ohm. A 50 W amplifier is the stated minimum. The enclosure is 110 cm high, 30 cm across and 55 cm deep, and each unit weighs 36.4 kg. Owners pick either black or white piano lacquer, and both versions carry carbon fibre inserts.

Engineering and use context

The X-series, the company explains, brings parts first developed for its costlier M, 0 and Z lines into a lower price class - the spread tow carbon cone, the ribbon tweeter and copper caps in the magnet motor, all designed in-house. On the X2 each cone is a three-skin laminate, bonding two spread carbon fibre faces to a middle layer of aramid honeycomb spacers, where the carbon brings stiffness and the honeycomb keeps the stiffness-to-weight ratio high. Rather than the iron-free motors used in the M-series, this model has a magnet system with two pole rings, each fitted with double copper caps, and a larger magnet so that flux remains high and inductance low while efficiency is kept. The ribbon starts working at about 2.5 kHz, moves only 0.01 g of mass and is rated at 90 dB by itself. Signal division happens in a parallel crossover built from the same component grade as the Z-series, selected for mechanical stability and low self-resonance. Inside, the wood composite box is heavily braced, and reflex ports tuned to frequencies chosen by the designers work alongside a vent that relieves air pressure behind the tweeter.

Pairing

Given the low impedance floor, a transistor amplifier comfortable with such a load is the natural partner, even if the power figure looks modest. The narrow baffle makes the X2 the easiest X model to place in a room of around 20 m2.

Alternatives

The Børresen X3 is the next X-series floorstander, adding a second 4.5-inch bass driver in a 129 cm cabinet rated down to 35 Hz.
