The M8 Gold Signature is a Børresen Acoustics tower designed by Michael Børresen. It is designed and hand-assembled at the Audio Group Denmark facility in Aalborg, and each finished pair is measured against a reference model before release. The launch price is EUR 1,000,000.
Key specs that matter
Every speaker carries fifteen drivers - one RP94 Gold Signature ribbon planar tweeter, two IronFree5 Gold Signature mid-bass units and twelve IronFree8 Gold Signature woofers of 8 inches. Rated response runs from 20 Hz to 50 kHz with a sensitivity of 87 dB at 1 W. The bass sections present 5 ohm and the mid-bass and tweeter section 8 ohm, and the maker asks for more than 100 W on each. The tweeter hands over from the mid-bass drivers at 2,400 Hz. One cabinet stands 2217 mm tall, 640 mm wide and 824 mm deep and weighs 325 kg, finished in black high-gloss lacquer with carbon details.
Engineering and use context
The layout stacks three modules. A central D'Appolito array of midrange and tweeter sits in its own enclosure, with a folded dipole bass module above and one below, each holding six woofers in mirrored pairs whose opposing strokes give a figure-eight dispersion. Collectively the twelve cones exceed the radiating area of three 15-inch woofers. The IronFree motors drop iron altogether, using four N52 neodymium rings in repelling pairs, and for this model a cryogenically treated copper pole ring layered with silver and gold was developed to lower voice coil inductance further. Baskets are milled from solid austenitic stainless steel, coated with titanium, zirconium and hafnium nitrides and cryo-processed. The woofer membrane sandwiches aramid honeycomb inside two carbon fibre layers and reinforces the epoxy resin with boron whiskers and graphene, while the IronFree5 adds a titanium outer layer. The RP94 ribbon weighs 0.01 grams, works from 2.5 kHz upward and here gains a treated stainless-steel front plate. Wood-based laminates, block-milled internal supports and stainless-steel side braces form the sloped central cabinet, and Ansuz Darkz Z3W zirconium decoupling devices come supplied as standard.
Pairing
Driving the M8 Gold Signature requires bi-amplification. The division between the bass modules and the upper section is handled by an external active crossover that is not included, so a system needs that filter plus separate amplifier channels for the two sections, and the brand's sister company Aavik offers an analog active filter in selected amplifiers for this job.
Alternatives
The Børresen M6 Gold Signature is a smaller tower in the same Gold Signature range, rated at 89 dB and 6 ohm with a weight of 86 kg.
