The Borea BR08 is the smaller of the two twin-woofer towers in the Borea range from Triangle, the French maker based in Soissons. Borea went on sale in September 2019 with three floorstanders (BR08, BR09 and BR10), two standmounts (BR02 and BR03) and the BRC1 centre, so the BR08 can anchor anything from a stereo pair to a 9.2.2 cinema layout. Triangle suggests it for listening rooms of 15 to 50 m2.
Key specs that matter
The BR08 uses three ways and four drivers in a bass reflex tower with its port on the front baffle. A 25 mm silk dome tweeter hands over to a 16 cm midrange at 3,500 Hz, and the midrange passes the lowest octaves to a pair of 16 cm woofers at 215 Hz. Bandwidth is quoted as 40 Hz to 22,000 Hz within 3 dB, and sensitivity is 92 dB/W/m. Nominal impedance is 8 ohm with a minimum of 3 ohm, power handling is 150 W, and Triangle names 75 to 250 W into 8 ohm as the suitable amplifier range. The cabinet measures 206 x 1,020 x 314 mm, growing to 260 x 1,051 x 360 mm once the pedestal is fitted, and each speaker weighs 21.2 kg net. Buyers choose from four finishes - Light Oak, Black Ash, Walnut or White.
Engineering and use context
Triangle calls its tweeter EFS, for Efficient Flow System. The silk dome sits behind a phase plug shaped to even out high-frequency dispersion, inside partial horn loading that cuts reflections around the dome, and it is driven by a compact neodymium motor with integrated cooling. The midrange cone is untreated natural cellulose paper, a material carried over from research for the Esprit Ez series, with a reworked profile for extra rigidity and a short-travel suspension of small pleats. Both woofers use fibreglass membranes on large motors. Inside, the DVAS system adds perforated MDF panels combined with EVA foam to stiffen the link between drivers and enclosure, and dense EVA gaskets damp vibration where each driver meets the baffle. A single pair of terminals takes the speaker cable, so the BR08 is not set up for bi-wiring. The magnetic grille has no visible fixings, and the pedestal can be fitted with steel spikes on carpet, while rubber tips protect hard floors.
Pairing
With its high sensitivity the BR08 needs little power to play at normal levels, yet its low impedance minimum rules out amplifiers that struggle with low loads. In a multichannel system it matches the BRC1 centre and BR02 or BR03 standmounts, all built around the same tweeter and cone materials.
Alternatives
The Triangle Borea BR09 is the next tower up, adding a third woofer and reaching down to 35 Hz.
