The Borea BR09 is the three-woofer tower of Triangle's Borea series, the range the Soissons company introduced in September 2019. It sits between the BR08 and the BR10 among the Borea floorstanders and shares its drivers with the BR02 and BR03 standmounts and the BRC1 centre speaker. Triangle designs it for listening rooms above 30 m2. Design work was carried out in France and production takes place in China.
Key specs that matter
Five drivers are arranged in a three-way bass reflex layout vented through the front. The 25 mm silk dome tweeter crosses to a 16 cm midrange at 3,900 Hz, and three 16 cm woofers take over below 310 Hz through a second-order filter. Triangle quotes 35 Hz to 22,000 Hz within 3 dB and 92 dB/W/m sensitivity. Impedance is 8 ohm nominal, dipping to 3.3 ohm, continuous power handling is 170 W, and the amplifier range given is 60 to 300 W into 8 ohm. The enclosure is 206 mm wide, 1,095 mm high and 314 mm deep, or 260 x 1,126 x 360 mm on its pedestal, and a single speaker weighs 23.4 kg. Finishes are Light Oak, Black Ash, Walnut and White.
Engineering and use context
The tweeter is Triangle's EFS design, in which a phase plug developed for the silk dome spreads treble output more evenly and a partial horn around the dome limits reflections. Its neodymium motor packs strong magnetic force into a small body and has built-in cooling. For the midrange Triangle chose a cone of natural cellulose paper with no surface treatment, reshaped to raise stiffness and carried on a short-excursion pleated surround, both features reserved for the floorstanding models. The three woofers have fibreglass membranes, and spreading the bass across three cones instead of the two in the BR08 is what lets the BR09 extend its response lower. Stiffening comes from the DVAS arrangement of perforated MDF panels with EVA foam, while EVA gaskets isolate each chassis from the baffle. Connection is through one set of binding posts. The grille attaches by magnets, and the pedestal takes steel spikes on carpet or rubber tips on tiled or wooden floors.
Pairing
High sensitivity lets modest integrated amplifiers drive the BR09, but its low impedance minimum makes load stability an important quality in the chosen amplifier. Triangle positions the Borea family for combinations up to 9.2.2, with the BRC1 as centre and the standmounts as surrounds.
Alternatives
The Triangle Borea BR10 is the Borea floorstander above it, with two 21 cm woofers, a 30 Hz lower limit and dual terminals for bi-wiring.
