The Borea BR07 belongs to the Borea family of floorstanding speakers from Triangle, the French manufacturer that introduced the Borea range in 2019 with the stated aim of offering its speakers within a controlled budget. The model uses a two-and-a-half-way configuration with a bass reflex opening on the front baffle. Triangle has since replaced it with the Borea BR08, and the European price was EUR 899.
Key specs that matter
The BR07 uses three drive units in total. At the top is a 25 mm silk dome tweeter with Triangle's EFS waveguide, below it a 16 cm mid-bass unit whose membrane is natural cellulose paper, and at the bottom a 16 cm bass driver with a fibreglass cone. Each of the two 16 cm transducers has its own crossover section, and the upper filter hands over to the tweeter at 3,500 Hz. Published bandwidth is 44 Hz to 22,000 Hz within 3 dB. Nominal impedance is 8 ohm and the minimum is 5 ohm. Power handling is quoted as 120 W RMS. Outside dimensions are 206 x 980 x 314 mm.
Engineering and use context
The EFS tweeter pairs the silk dome with a waveguide mounted in front of it. Triangle equips its Borea floorstanders with DVAS, short for Driver Vibration Absorption System, a set of internal panels made of MDF and EVA foam that press against the bass drivers. The panels stiffen the joint between each driver and the enclosure and soak up the energy that cone motion creates, so that only a low residual vibration reaches the cabinet walls. Signal travels inside the enclosure over oxygen-free copper cable, and the fabric grilles are held by magnets rather than pegs. The cabinet rests on a decoupled base fitted with adjustable spikes. Triangle describes the BR07 as suitable for both hi-fi listening and home cinema systems. Production takes place in France. According to Triangle, the EFS tweeter, the natural cellulose membrane and the DVAS system used across Borea came out of research done for the more expensive Esprit Ez range.
Pairing
Triangle's advice on amplification calls for a stereo amplifier or home cinema receiver giving between 60 and 200 W, and the maker notes that its speakers never fall below 3 ohm, so almost all hi-fi and home cinema amplifiers can drive them.
Alternatives
Triangle's Borea BR08 is the floorstander that took over from the BR07, built as a three-way tower around four units, among them a pair of fibreglass woofers, in a taller cabinet weighing 21.2 kg.
