Напольная акустика — Triangle Esprit 40th - Antal 40th

The Antal 40th is the floorstanding model of the Esprit 40th collection, the limited 40th anniversary edition from Triangle, whose design and assembly work is carried out in Soissons, France. Antal and Comète are two long-running names in the Triangle catalogue, and the anniversary range consists of the Comète 40th and this larger Antal 40th. One speaker costs USD 2,550, and the price is the same whichever of the three wood finishes is chosen.

Key specs that matter

Built as a passive three-way floorstander, the Antal 40th has a front bass reflex port and four drivers. The tweeter uses a 25 mm magnesium dome loaded by a horn, the midrange is a 16.5 cm unit with a natural cellulose paper membrane, and two 16.5 cm woofers handle the bass. Sensitivity is 92 dB at 1 W and 1 m, nominal impedance is 8 ohm and the minimum is 3 ohm. Power handling is 140 W, and Triangle recommends amplifiers of 60 to 300 W into 8 ohm. Each speaker measures 200 x 1,090 x 345 mm and has a double terminal block. Packed in its carton, a single unit has a gross weight of 37.9 kg, against a net weight of 29.8 kg.

Engineering and use context

For the anniversary edition the tweeter received a new composite dome in rose gold anodised magnesium, a material Triangle chose for combining low mass with rigidity. The midrange membrane is 100 percent natural cellulose paper without any surface treatment. The woofers are a new generation for this model, designed to limit distortion despite a long throw and driven by a generously sized motor. Three wood finishes distinguish the edition. Santos rosewood is given a glossy coat, blond sycamore receives a single layer of matt varnish, and golden oak completes the choice, while the driver trim rings carry a rose gold anodised finish. Every speaker passes acoustic checks, including measurements in an anechoic chamber, and ships with a numbered certificate of authenticity. The accessory kit contains a magnetic grille and two sets of decoupling feet, rose gold aluminium spikes that adjust in height and come with lock nuts, and rubber tips.

Pairing

Within the anniversary collection the smaller Comète 40th is the companion to the Antal 40th, and Triangle designed a matching S04 40th Anniversary stand for it.

Alternatives

From the Esprit EZ line Triangle offers the Australe EZ, a three-way floorstander with six drivers, including a rear-firing tweeter, and a sensitivity of 92.5 dB.
