The G Two is a compact model from Genelec's G Series of powered home speakers, positioned between the G One and G Three. Its driver sizes and dimensions correspond to the 8020 studio monitor, and it is intended for desktops, bookshelves and small rooms where a speaker with built-in amplification connects straight to a source.

Key specs that matter

A 50 W Class D amplifier feeds each of its two drivers, a 105 mm (4-inch) bass unit and a 19 mm metal dome tweeter, which divide the range at 3 kHz. Genelec specifies a range of 56 Hz to 25 kHz at -6 dB and ±2.5 dB from 62 Hz to 20 kHz. Short-term SPL exceeds 100 dB and long-term SPL exceeds 93 dB. The input is a single RCA socket at 10 kohms. Power consumption is under 0.5 W in standby, 3 W idle and 60 W at full output. The speaker is 242 mm high on the Iso-Pod, or 230 mm without it, 151 mm wide and 142 mm deep, and weighs 3.2 kg.

Engineering and use context

The G Two housing is made of recycled die-cast aluminium, and its rounded shape reduces diffraction from the cabinet edges. A waveguide formed into the front around the tweeter shapes dispersion, and a rear reflex port extends the output of the bass driver. The switch set includes Bass at -2 or -4 dB, Low Bass at -4 dB around 65 Hz, Tabletop, a Level switch of -10 dB, ISS and LED Off. Automatic standby through ISS saves power when no audio is playing, and the speaker returns to operation as soon as a signal is detected. There is no XLR input, no digital input and no GLM connection, so the G Two is set up entirely with its rear switches. Driver protection circuitry is built in, and the Iso-Pod stand decouples the housing from its surface while allowing a tilt. With amplifiers built in, a G Two pair connects with one RCA cable and one power cord per speaker. Mounting threads in the base and on the rear accept stands and brackets. The colour choices are black and white, along with RAW unpainted aluminium.

Pairing

Streamers and DACs with variable outputs, TVs with an analogue out and computer interfaces with RCA outputs drive the G Two directly. A matching Genelec F Two subwoofer adds deeper bass, and its RCA outputs, high-passed, can drive the G Two so that the sub handles the lowest octaves. Up to five G Two can join an F Two as a 5.1 system.

Alternatives

The Genelec G Three steps up to a 130 mm bass driver, equal amplifier power and a 47 Hz lower limit, and adds an XLR input.
