The G One is the smallest model in the G Series, Genelec's range of active speakers for the home, and is based on the 8010A studio monitor. It is a two-way speaker with built-in amplification in a compact housing, designed for desks, shelves and small rooms where a pair should connect directly to a computer, TV or streamer.

Key specs that matter

Its 76 mm (3-inch) bass driver and 19 mm metal dome tweeter run from separate 25 W Class D amplifiers, and the crossover point is 3 kHz. Response spans 67 Hz to 25 kHz at -6 dB and ±2.5 dB from 74 Hz to 20 kHz. Short-term maximum SPL is over 96 dB and long-term SPL over 91 dB. The single input is RCA with an impedance of 7 kohms. Consumption is below 0.5 W in ISS standby, 5 W idle and 30 W at full output, from 100 to 240 V. The speaker is 195 mm tall on its Iso-Pod, or 181 mm without it, 121 mm wide and 115 mm deep, and weighs 1.7 kg.

Engineering and use context

Genelec builds the G One enclosure from recycled die-cast aluminium, with rounded edges that limit diffraction and a small waveguide shaping the tweeter output. A reflex port at the rear adds bass output to the small bass driver. The rear switches offer a Bass setting of -2 or -4 dB, a Tabletop control, a Level switch of -10 dB and ISS Disable. Unlike the professional monitors, the G One has no XLR input, no AES/EBU digital input and no GLM network port. ISS, Intelligent Signal Sensing, normally turns the speaker off after a period without signal and on again when audio arrives, and the disable switch keeps it permanently on. A driver protection circuit prevents damage at high levels. The rubber Iso-Pod decouples the cabinet from a desk or shelf and can tilt it toward the listener. A 3/8-inch UNC base thread and Omnimount threads on the back allow mounting on microphone stands or wall brackets. It is offered in black, in white, and in bare RAW aluminium.

Pairing

Computer interfaces, streamers with a volume control and televisions with an analogue line output can all connect over RCA. Its limited bass extension makes a subwoofer useful, and the Genelec F Two is designed for it, with RCA outputs high-passed at 85 Hz that can feed the G One so the sub takes the lowest range. Up to five G One can run with one F Two as a 5.1 system. Each speaker needs its own mains connection.

Alternatives

The Genelec G Two moves up to a 105 mm bass driver with 50 W amplifiers per driver and a 56 Hz lower limit.
