The G Three is a mid-sized active two-way loudspeaker from Genelec's G Series for home listening, sitting between the G Two and G Four. Its driver sizes, amplifier power and dimensions match the 8030C studio monitor, while the connections and controls are adapted to domestic sources with both RCA and XLR inputs.

Key specs that matter

A 130 mm (5-inch) bass cone and a 19 mm metal dome tweeter are powered by two 50 W Class D amplifiers, crossed over at 3 kHz. The -6 dB bandwidth runs from 47 Hz to 25 kHz, and ±2.5 dB accuracy holds from 54 Hz to 20 kHz. Maximum short-term SPL is 104 dB or more at 1 m, or 110 dB at 0.5 m, and long-term SPL is 96 dB. There are RCA and XLR inputs. Consumption is below 0.5 W in standby, 3 W at idle and 60 W at full output. On its Iso-Pod the G Three stands 299 mm high, or 285 mm without it, and it is 189 mm wide and 178 mm deep, weighing 5.0 kg.

Engineering and use context

The cabinet is die-cast from recycled aluminium, and its rounded form reduces diffraction at the edges while keeping the housing rigid and compact. A waveguide around the tweeter controls dispersion so the speaker behaves consistently when listeners sit off axis. The reflex port is located on the back panel. Rear switches cover Treble, Bass, Low Bass, Tabletop, Level, LED Off and ISS. The Level switch adapts input sensitivity to the source. With ISS active, the speaker waits in standby during silence and returns automatically when audio arrives. A driver protection circuit limits output under overload. Crossover filtering and amplification all happen inside the cabinet, so a speaker needs only mains power and one signal lead. The Iso-Pod decouples the G Three from its support and lets it tilt, and a 3/8-inch UNC base thread with Omnimount and König & Meyer threads at the rear offers stand and wall mounting. The G Three has no digital input and no GLM network connection, which are reserved for Genelec's SAM studio models. Genelec lists RAW aluminium, white and black finishes.

Pairing

A streamer, DAC or preamplifier with variable output connects directly over RCA, or over XLR where balanced outputs are available, and no separate amplifier is needed. Genelec lists a pair of G Three with the F Two subwoofer as a matching combination for fuller bass. The compact bass driver suits rooms of about 20 m2.

The Genelec G Four is the next G Series model up, with a 165 mm bass driver, 90 W amplifiers per driver and a 41 Hz lower limit.
