The 8361A is a three-way coaxial monitor in Genelec's The Ones family, announced on 5 September 2019 together with the revised 8351B and the W371A woofer system. It is intended for main and midfield monitoring in larger control rooms and can be combined with the W371A to extend the bass and control low-frequency directivity.
Key specs that matter
The coaxial unit places a 25 mm metal dome tweeter inside a 130 mm midrange cone, and two 263 x 137 mm obround woofers provide the bass. The Class D amplifiers are rated 700 W for bass and 150 W each for midrange and tweeter. Crossovers sit at 320 Hz and 2800 Hz. Response reaches 30 Hz to 43 kHz at -6 dB, with ±1.5 dB accuracy from 36 Hz to 20 kHz. Short-term output is 118 dB or more and long-term output 109 dB. Signal enters over an analogue XLR or an AES/EBU input with thru, and two RJ45 sockets join the GLM network. Power draw is 1.5 W or less in ISS standby, 20 W idle and 600 W at full output, from 100 to 240 V. The monitor measures 593 x 357 x 347 mm with its Iso-Pod, or 570 mm tall without it, and weighs 31.9 kg.
Engineering and use context
As in the other models of The Ones, the woofers are hidden around the coaxial driver and placed so that they act acoustically on the same axis, which makes the whole speaker a point source even at close range. The large front waveguide governs directivity over a wide part of the spectrum. The die-cast aluminium enclosure follows Genelec's Minimum Diffraction design with rounded surfaces and a reflex port. For horizontal use, a separate Iso-Pod spring is included that mounts offset toward the port, and four M6 threads allow wall or ceiling brackets. Control is through GLM, where the monitor is calibrated and its settings are stored internally, or through the same rear switch set used on the 8351B. Given its weight, this is a monitor for a solid stand, soffit or bracket rather than a desk. Three paint colours are offered - dark grey, black and white.
Pairing
Analogue or AES/EBU sources connect directly, and the W371A adaptive woofer system can sit beneath the 8361A for bass down to 23 Hz with selectable directivity modes in GLM. Alternatively, a SAM subwoofer can be added for LFE in multichannel film and music systems.
Alternatives
The Genelec 8351B is the smaller coaxial model of The Ones, with two 218 x 101 mm woofers, a 250 W bass amplifier and 14.3 kg weight.
